Organic Sunflower Seeds

Sunflowers are part of the daisy family and were worshipped by the Incas. The seeds are actually the fruits of the sunflower plant - a single sunflower head may contain up to 2,000 seeds!

They have a creamy texture and a slightly nutty flavour which is brought out by toasting.

Cooking with Sunflower Seeds

There are many ways to use sunflower seeds. They make a great addition to trail mixes, home-made granola, multi-grain bread and protein balls.

Roasted sunflower seeds make an easy snack full of protein and healthy fats. They also make a lovely crunchy addition to a vegetable salad, provide flavour for a sandwich, or bulk up a veggie burger. Sprinkle onto salads, steamed veggies, yoghurts or porridge to add a new texture, make a pesto (substitute for pine nuts) or even make a sunflower seed butter and spread over slices of apple.

Please note that sunflower seeds can turn blue/green when heated. Don’t panic! This is due to a completely harmless chemical reaction between the seeds’ acid and baking soda.
