The coffee beans you brew are actually the processed and roasted seeds from a fruit, which is called a coffee cherry. Even though the coffee beans are seeds, they are referred to as "beans" because of their resemblance to true beans. Coffee trees can grow to more than 9 meters and live up to 100 years!!

Kenyan coffee beans are considered to be one of the world’s best coffee beans. The high growing altitudes means that the beans grow slower than at low altitudes, providing more nutrients and allowing them more time to develop their flavours and mature. They are known for having fantastic fertile, volcanic soil and excellent harvesting and processing methods.

The coffee cherry is pulped and fermented in tanks for 48 hours. They are then graded in washing channels - the more dense beans will sink and are sold as the higher graded speciality coffee. After grading they are soaked in clean water and then moved to dry out in the sun.

Now what does it taste like? Well, the tasting notes reveal blackcurrant, rhubarb, sweet citrus and brown sugar. Why not try some yourself?!

Using these Coffee Beans

Grind 17g of these beans, and let it run through the espresso machine until you have 40g / 40ml coffee. This should take bout 30 seconds.

  • Your coffee’s greatest enemies are air, moisture, heat, and light.

Store in an air tight container in a dark, cool, dry place. A cabinet near the oven is often too warm, and so is a spot on the kitchen counter that gets strong afternoon sun.

The coffee will keep for up to 6 months.
