Currants are made by drying a variety of small, black, seedless grapes. They have a subtler and slightly more tart flavour than raisins and are used to add texture and sweetness to both sweet and savoury dishes. Think scones, currant buns, christmas cake and pudding, chutneys and mincemeat.
