The coffee beans you brew are actually the processed and roasted seeds from a fruit, which is called a coffee cherry. Even though the coffee beans are seeds, they are referred to as "beans" because of their resemblance to true beans. Coffee trees can grow to more than 9 meters and live up to 100 years!!

 

These coffee beans are sourced from Rwanda and are processed using a washed double soaked method. The ripe cherry is hand harvested and then washed, pulped and fermented for 12-16 hrs before being graded. The coffee is then soaked a second time for 10-12 hrs and then dried. 

 

This particular coffee is a relationship coffee, which means that the roasters and farmers work together to establish a long-term trading partnership, where the farmers receive a fair price that is not vulnerable to commodity market fluctuations. This price is at least 25% more than the fairtrade price - and often well in excess of this. 

 

By buying this coffee you are also supporting the One Tree Planted Project - for every kilo sold of these coffee beans, one tree will be planted in the Rwandan forest.

 

Now what does it taste like? Well, this has a clean, bright juicy flavour including orange, caramel and black tea. Why not try some yourself?!

 

Using this Ground Coffee

 

This coffe will be ground to order for espressos.

 

The roasters recommend a brew ration of 1:2.2 for an espresso, so let 18g of these ground coffee beans run through the espresso machine until you have 40g / 40ml coffee.

    Store in an air tight container in a dark, cool, dry place. A cabinet near the oven is often too warm, and so is a spot on the kitchen counter that gets strong afternoon sun.

    To keep the great flavour, use within 14 days. The coffee will keep for up to 6 months but the flavour won't be as good. See best before date.
