Originating from SE Asia, cloves are the hard dried flower buds of an everygreen tree in the myrtle family. Whole cloves are about 1cm long and shaped like a small, reddish-brown spike with a ball at one end. They have a rich warm flavour and aroma have been used for thousands of years across Asia.
Cooking with Cloves
Cloves can be used in both sweet and savoury dishes, from studing a ham joint, flavouring sauces, soups, meats, curries and added to mulled wines, biscuits and pastries.
