Arrowroot powder is a starch from the root of a West Indian plant. It is used mainly as a thickening agent for soups and sauces and is very similar to cornflour.
How to use Arrowroot Powder
Mix arrowroot powder throughly with cold/lukewarm water before adding to the liquid that you want to thicken. If you add it directly to a hot liquid, it will go lumpy.
Arrowroot is ideal for thickening sauces including those with an acidic content, such as apple sauce or sweet and sour sauce. It also works really well when making homemade ice cream as it isn't affected by freezing temperatures.
